What Do You See?

“The lamp of the body is the eye. If your eye is sound, your whole body will be filled with light;
but if your eye is bad, your whole body will be in darkness. And if the light in you is darkness, how great will the darkness be.”

I am trying to be more discerning in what I see, read and as much as possible, experience. I stopped going to Starbucks when they supported anti-life policies. I supported CFC FFL’s stand against Lady Gaga‘s concert, and the concern about the immorality in the Pinoy Big Brother house. I emailed and blogged about the Kenny Rogers’ campaign with overt sexual references.

It isn’t easy for sure. There are a lot (if not all) multi-nationals who have the same ideals as Starbucks. Now instead of crossing the street to get coffee, I have to walk 15 minutes away. Or just bring 3-in-1. I am researching alternatives to other multi-nationals as well. Like instead of Nike, what’s better? Instead of Microsoft (well, Apple of course). Sometimes I just want to give up – is it worth the effort anyway? Does it really make a difference if one person stops buying that Coffee Jelly Frappuccino?

Yes it does. To me. My eye must be sound, so my whole body can be filled with light. The more darkness I see or tolerate, the more darkness creeps into me. I will speak out against immorality less, and be more accepting of all the inconsistencies more. I will be afraid of speaking up, because I won’t have the moral background to back up my statements. And eventually I will not know what to say, because I won’t know what the issues are – because my moral compass would be clouded and dark as night.

And it all starts slowly.

DOTA and Diablo are just video games.

FHM is just a magazine.

It’s an indie film. It’s art.

It’s the latest video, I need to know what people are talking about.

Vampires aren’t real, it’s just a TV show.

Modern Family is a comedy, it’s so funny.

I just watch it, I don’t mean any harm.

Masturbation is natural, everyone does it.

And it can go on and on. You let in the darkness one centimeter at a time. But those centimeters add up until you only see darkness, and forget light. And “how great will the darkness be”. Live in the light, no matter how hard it is for you because everyone can see, and there is nowhere to hide. But then again, WHY should you hide when you have nothing TO hide?
