Then the two recounted what had taken place on the way
and how he was made known to them in the breaking of the bread.
Jesus is made known to us in the breaking of the bread. That’s the beauty of Mass. Where we get to know Jesus personally through the Eucharist. And then we even get to partake of His sacrifice! How can it not transform us? Even if we go just once a week, how can it not touch our loves utterly and completely?
It is a shame when people go to Mass and miss out on what is really happening. And the effects of that are seen everywhere – the degradation of family, morals, values and society. Because people are physically present but are not actively partaking in the miracle that is happening right in front of their eyes!
And he said to them, “Oh, how foolish you are!
How slow of heart to believe all that the prophets spoke!
Was it not necessary that the Christ should suffer these things
and enter into his glory?”
Do we have to suffer as well before people realize the beauty of the faith that is with us?
