>Gotta Love Pinas!

After the shrine to Imelda, we went to a couple other sites in the Tacloban area. How can we not go to MacArthur’s site of return? We got to the Leyte Landing, and there were larger than life gold statues of MacArthur and his posse. It is the talk of the town that MacArthur wanted a grand scene on his return due to his theater background. But it was during the re-enactment a couple of years back that the grand scene actually happened. The actor portraying MacArthur tripped after a few steps, and was drenched in sea water. That would have been so much funnier if it actually happened to MacArthur.
We also drove all the way to San Juanico bridge. The snakey bridge connecting Leyte and Samar. It’s a bit of a stretch but it does look somewhat like a S and a L put together. We got off in the middle of the bridge to take pictures and to pretend to fall off the bridge. They were talking about an actor who actually jumped off, but I can’t remember his name. He died.
Then we proceeded to lunch in Rafael’s Garden. A surprising oasis in the middle of nowhere! It was calm, cool, serene and refreshing. After a long day of jumping in and out of the van, it was a good late-lunch break for all of us. And the food was delicious!
After a stopover in the mall (which is considered part of a Philippine Tour anywhere you go), we took the long ride to Naval – a simple town nestled in a simple island 🙂
